Jeonju day trip
Jeonju is under two hours from Seoul by KTX and everything here sits within the Hanok Village and Nambu Market. Come hungry and early.
Day 1 Hanok Village on foot
BreakfastJojeomnye Nammun PisundaeGet the sundae-gukbap with a side plate of pisundae so you taste the blood sausage both in and out of the soup, and finish with a bowl of moju, Jeonju's mild rice wine.
LunchVeteran KalguksuOrder the signature kalguksu — the perilla powder gives the broth a nutty, thick texture unlike Seoul-style versions.
AfternoonJeonju Waengi Kongnamul GukbapOrder the kongnamul-gukbap, Jeonju's bean-sprout soup with rice, served scalding with a poached egg on the side. Locals spoon a little hot broth and crumbled seaweed over the egg and eat that first, then work through the soup - and a small bottle of the sweet spiced moju is the traditional chaser.
DinnerHankookjibOrder the Jeonju bibimbap at the restaurant that claims to have sold the dish first, back in 1952 - rice cooked in beef broth, topped with seasoned vegetables and a spoonful of chilli paste. The yukhoe bibimbap with raw beef is the step up if you want it.
